366 photos of 2009

Not sure if this isn't a wasted occupation but it is getting me out and about more and seeing more of Cambridge.... The first features one of the bicycle shops in Mill Road, wedged inbetween the RSPCA shop and one of the many vacant shops that are popping up with more frequency nowadays. Kailash is one of those wonderful el-cheapo shops that sell almost anything, Pizza shop, then one of the many Churches that proliferate just this road... The second is another shot of Mill Road, looking the other way. We have a heavy Asian influence in the area, Indian on this side of the railway bridge and Oriental & Arab on the other. It gives us a diversity of cafes and food shops - currently Chinese, Korean & various Middle Eastern countries, plus my favourite little computer man is Indian too. Cambridge has so many students of different nationalities, you can hear many languages spoken here; indeed, sometimes it's refreshing to hear English spoken on the buses!

There's quite a lot of repairs being carried out to buildings now that the weather has improved - and the trucks continue to be a damn nuisance! But what can you do? Supplies of all kinds still need to be delivered on streets not designed for modern vehicles. This is a common problem in a lot of old towns in Britain and some of the smaller cities. What price progress, eh??

'One for the Money' will make you LOL

New Jersey girl who perpetually falls over her own feet but goes to work for her cousin, Vinnie, as a bounty hunter/recovery agent and finds she has a knack for it. Just how she manages inspite of herself and being a one-woman wrecking crew AND attracting the attention of two hot men at the same time, has to be read to be believed. You'll have many a good laugh along the way in this series of books by Janet Evanovich, a Jersey girl herself.

Latest from Joanna Lumley

The latest news from the lovely Lumley..

"I'm delighted to be able to say that the Gurkha Justice Campaign now has
over 55,000 signatures - thank you so much.

I've recorded a special video message for all the supporters of the
Gurkha Justice Campaign which you can see
at http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=InjrGSHMQ2I and you can find more
information at our newly updated web site www.gurkhajustice.org.uk

Please do make sure all your family, friends, colleagues know about the
petition at www.gurkhajustice.org.uk - I REALLY want to get more
signatures, and need your help. If everyone getting this email could
encourage just 20 friends to sign, we'd beat our target immediately.

I was delighted to be in Westminster on Monday at the third reading of
Lord Lee of Trafford's Immigration (Discharged Gurkhas) Bill in the
House of Lords (http://tinyurl.com/3nekbe). The bill was unopposed in
the Lords, and now goes to the House of Commons - if there is enough
time in this session. Although it's apparently quite rare for a Private
Members Bill to get accepted by the Government, I hope they will do so
in this case - it simply does everything we want. We just need to
convince the Government to agree.

After the third reading debate was over, I went to a meeting with some
real ex-Gurkha heroes including Honorary Lieutenant Tul Bahadur Pun VC
who served as a Chindit in Burma with my father. At the meeting, it was
fantastic to receive pledges of support from lots of MPs, peers and
campaigners from all parties (and crossbenchers) to support Lord Lee's
Bill.

Many people have asked for a petition form they can give to family and
friends - this can be downloaded
from http://gurkhajustice.org.uk/gurkha_campaign_petition_form.pdf or
they can sign up on the site directly.

With warmest good wishes,

Joanna
www.gurkhajustice.org.uk

PS. As you can see in the video, I've made good use of my Gurkha Justice
t-shirt this week - a really simple way to show my support for the
campaign and get the web site address out quickly. So many people have
asked where they can get one that we've set up an online shop - so you
can buy a Gurkha Justice t-shirt or sweatshirt and help spread the word
with pride too.

You can buy from http://gurkhajustice.spreadshirt.net - every item sold
from this online shop will make the campaign a small profit which will
be used to further promote the cause."

If you haven't seen the case on TV or read about it, this is a good way for people to know what is going on. i signed the petition immediately i was able to as i think the Government is behaving very shabbily to some of the bravest soldiers i have ever heard of. Many lost their lives for us and were part of our Army for heavens sake! We do need to shake their tree and get them to step up to the plate.
We let so many "refugees" come and live here and sponge off our social services and the NHS, to the extent of not hearing English spoken in many parts of the country - the Gurkhas don't whine or ask for anything they're not entitled to. Injustice always makes me mad...

First Blog - 3rd July, 2007

Google i guess has to be one of the most well-known names on the Internet and as i have used the engine such a lot and continue to do so, it makes sense to have a blog here. Especially as i am trying to keep in touch with people on the other side of the world.
So if you see and read this, New Zealand & Australia, give me a hoot....
Most of the people i know in America & Canada already know where i am, although none of you know of the existence of this blog site as yet, being the first time i have posted here!

A lot of my posts will be about what i do from day to day and unless you become enamoured of my prose *snorts* i doubt if i will interest you much - unless you too get furious with the many tentacled local authorities and Government! i frequently become incoherent with them, as i am currently unemployed, which i HATE.

The only real point of interest will be to other fans of the incredible, one and only James Marsters!
i publish my photos (few) and reports of meetings & conventions attended by Himself (long!) when i am luck enough to be able to attend.

i am about to transcribe some of my travel journals onto computer, so perhaps one woman's view of travelling to America, Venice and China, may interest you. We shall see....

For now, greetings to the Google Blog world!
